Fixing Instructions

Direct to Concrete Soffit
Boards are fixed direct to the concrete using mechanical fixings. Fixings should be at 600mm centres and 50mm in from the board edges. On a full panel, 15 fixings should be used. Each fixing should penetrate the concrete by at least 25mm and holes should be drilled oversize by 2mm in the board. The head of the fixing should be around 25mm. Boards must be staggered in a brick pattern and a small 2mm gap between each board is recommended.
If the external perimeter of the soffit results in exposed board edges then these need to be protected with a flashing or similar. Contact our sales dept. for further information. Insulation panel - Wall Insulation

Timber Battens
Where an uneven surface exists or there are services, timber battens may be used. Treated timber battens 50mm x 25mm are fixed to the soffit to coincide with the fixing pattern outlined in the direct fixing instructions.

Roof Upstand & Parapet
Styroclad can be cut on site to the required size. At the time of installation, the boards should be mechanically fixed along the top edge. This can be achieved either through the board face at maximum 800mm centres, positioned a minimum 50mm / maximum 200 mm from the edge of the board or through the use of metal zed brackets fitted along the top edge also at a maximum of 800mm centres. If the bottom edge of the board is not to be physically retained by the roof deck insulation, an additional row of mechanical fixings will also be required. Where an uneven surface exists, adhesives may also be used at the contractor’s discretion. These should not contain solvents that may attack the Styrofoam. Finally, a decorative flashing must be fitted along the top edge to minimise moisture penetration behind the boards.

Cutting
Styroclad can be cut using normally available site cutting tools including circular saws and fine toothed saws. Where large amounts of cutting is required then dust levels may require the use of face masks.

Site Storage
Styroclad is packed on pallets with limited weather protection. Pallets should always be stored on flat ground and if materials are likely to remain exposed for long periods then additional protection of the pallet will be required. When boards are removed from the pallet, they should be stored flat and in a dry area.
